Product Description

Grounded in a socio-historical perspective with engaging stories and first person accounts.

Racial and ethnic relations in the United States are at a dynamic and exciting time. Major events are shaping our society, such as population and immigration changes, the election of the first African-American president, and increasing diversity throughout our society.

Racial and Ethnic Groups, 12th edition helps students understand the changing dynamics of the U.S. population. By using a socio-historical perspective, the author frames issues by examining our history, exploring the current situation, and discussing the concerns for the future.

Filled with first person accounts, such as “Listen to Our Voices,” brief story chapter openers, and “Student Voices” questions, Schaefer’s Racial and Ethnic Groups actively engages students in the study of racial and ethnic relations.

Major changes include the introduction of “Global View” boxes, and new discussions of high-interest topics, such as African immigration and color-blind racism.

The book was just like new and I received it in a little over 2 weeks.

The book ariived in a timely manner and in good condition, just as the seller stated. Would order from the seller again. As for the book, it was required for a college course. Very dry reading.

3 out of 5 stars Well packaged   July 4, 2010

The book came as promised, but I was very frustrated. Partially my fault, because I had dealt with other sellers that delivered much faster, so I didn't allow for as much time. The only REAL complaint was the tracking. The book was reading the status of something like "seller is preparing and packaging" for about 3 weeks. This made me very nervous and uneasy, since I was purchasing this book for a summer class.

HOWEVER, it only seemed to take about 3 days once that status changed, so it may have been something in the Amazon tracking update. The book came in the condition promised, and it was packaged very thoroughly. It was wrapped in newspaper and protective package material.

1 out of 5 stars Very very bias   June 29, 2010

Alright, this book really gets under my skin. Here is the thing, im hispanic, my mom was a middle class Hispanic catholic who raised my father who was a lower class white protestant. My two best friends are black and the other two are white. This whole book makes it sound like we cannot get a long, and to anyone with an ounce of sense just cant understand what this book is trying to tell you.

When he talks about woman, he talks about how horrible it is that sometimes woman are denied equal opportunities, which is very true. But when he talks about muslims and how lowly they are in their culture, that is totally cool. What the heck is up with that?

Really, this guy has all these cool stats about how White people hate everyone and put them down. its remarkable. he has almost no understanding of economics and the free market, and he thinks he stupid statistics can solve anything if we can just make everyone equal (SOCIALISM). This guy is a total nut job, i'm sorry to anyone has to use it for a class like mine.
